Robert S. Strauss
دبلوماسي أمريكي
Robert S. Strauss was a prominent American diplomat, whose career in politics, diplomacy, and law spanned several decades. His involvement in politics began early, with his participation in future President Lyndon Johnson's first congressional campaign in 1937. As his career progressed, Strauss became closely associated with a faction of the Democratic Party in Texas, led by Johnson and John Connally. This affiliation laid the groundwork for his future roles in national politics.
Strauss held several key positions in the US government, including Chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1972 to 1977. He also served under President Jimmy Carter as the U.S. Trade Representative and as a special envoy to the Middle East. Later, under President George H. W. Bush, Strauss was appointed Ambassador to Russia, and notably, he was the last United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union. Through these roles, Strauss established himself as a respected and influential figure in American diplomacy and politics.
