Richard Glazar
Czech-Jewish Holocaust survivor and memoirist (1920–1997)
Richard Glazar was a Czech-Jewish Holocaust survivor, born in 1920, who endured the unimaginable horrors of the Treblinka extermination camp in German-occupied Poland. As a prisoner in the camp, he played a part in the courageous prisoner revolt that took place in August 1943. This uprising was a significant event, and Glazar was one of the fortunate few who managed to survive it.
Glazar's experiences during the Holocaust had a profound impact on his life, and he later chose to share his story with the world through literature. In 1992, he published his autobiographical book, "Trap with a Green Fence: Survival in Treblinka", which provides a personal and detailed account of his time in the camp. Through his writing, Glazar aimed to convey the atrocities he witnessed and the struggles he faced, leaving behind a lasting testament to his resilience and survival. He passed away in 1997, leaving a legacy as a memoirist and a witness to one of the darkest periods in human history.
