Hugh Blumenfeld

Hugh Blumenfeld is a renowned American folk musician and singer-songwriter, born in Jamaica, Queens, New York City. His educational background is marked by academic excellence, having graduated with degrees in Biology and Humanities from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980. He furthered his studies, earning a master's degree in English Literature from the University of Chicago in 1981. This strong foundation in the humanities would later influence his musical pursuits.
Blumenfeld's music career gained momentum in the 1980s, as he became an active participant in the vibrant Greenwich Village music scene. He was a regular at notable venues such as Folk City and Speak Easy, and contributed to the Cornelia Street Songwriters Exchange. His involvement in the Fast Folk Musical Magazine, for which he edited and recorded songs, showcased his talent and dedication to his craft. After completing his PhD in Poetics from New York University in 1991, Blumenfeld transitioned from academia to a full-time music career in 1994. He spent the next decade touring extensively in the Northeast, Midwest, Europe, and Israel, culminating in his appointment as Connecticut State Troubadour in 1999.
