David Buzaglo

شاعر مغربي يهودي

David Buzaglo was a prominent Moroccan-Israeli liturgical poet, born in 1903. He was a respected paytan, which is a composer of Jewish liturgical hymns, and also worked as a teacher, specializing in the traditional Moroccan Jewish style. Through his work, Buzaglo developed a unique approach to Zionism, one that was rooted in religious poetry and drew upon classic Jewish metaphors.

Buzaglo's poetic approach to Zionism distinguished him from other Zionist movements of his time. Unlike secular Zionism, his work was deeply rooted in religious tradition. At the same time, his perspective differed from mainstream religious Zionism, offering a distinct voice within the broader Zionist movement. Buzaglo passed away in 1975, leaving behind a legacy as a significant figure in the world of Jewish liturgical poetry and a unique contributor to the discourse on Zionism.
