Shlomo Harkavy

Polish-Jewish rabbi and Holocaust victim (1890–1942)

Shlomo Harkavy was a prominent Polish-Jewish rabbi who played a significant role in the Orthodox Jewish community. Born in 1890, he went on to become a respected figure in the field of Judaism, earning the nickname Rav Shlomo Grodner. His expertise and dedication led to his appointment as mashgiach ruchani at the esteemed Grodno Yeshiva, where he worked under the guidance of renowned rabbi Shimon Shkop.

Tragically, Harkavy's life was cut short during the Holocaust, a period of immense persecution and suffering for the Jewish community. He was murdered in 1942, a victim of the brutal atrocities committed during this time. Despite his untimely death, Shlomo Harkavy's legacy as a devoted rabbi and scholar continues to be remembered, his contributions to the Grodno Yeshiva and the broader Jewish community remaining an important part of his enduring memory.
