John Kaplan (cantor)

John Kaplan is a prominent American cantor with a distinguished career in music. He has held notable positions within the American Conference of Cantors (ACC), including Chair of the Committee on Ethics and Appeals and Secretary of the ACC Executive Board. His dedication and service to the ACC were recognized in 2010 when he was named Volunteer of the Year.

Kaplan has also served in various spiritual leadership roles, including as Cantor of Temple Israel in Memphis, Tennessee, a position he assumed in 1981. During his tenure, he worked closely with the committee on congregational caring, God's Unfinished Business, as clergy liaison. In 2014, he took on a new role as spiritual leader of Congregation B'nai Israel in Jackson, a position that traditionally had been held by a rabbi, underscoring his versatility and leadership in the Jewish community.
