John Fischer (pianist)

John Fischer was a multifaceted American jazz musician, born in 1930, whose career spanned multiple disciplines including music, composition, and art. As a pianist, he was an active participant in the vibrant jazz scene, particularly during the 1970s loft jazz era in New York City. Fischer's contributions to the music world were marked by his innovative approach and collaborative spirit, evident in his work with various notable musicians.

Fischer's artistic endeavors extended beyond music to the realm of visual arts, where he emerged as a pioneer in computer art. He was also the founder of Environ, a performance loft and gallery that served as a hub for creative expression. As the leader of the group Interface, Fischer performed alongside esteemed musicians such as Perry Robinson, Mark Whitecage, Arthur Blythe, Rick Kilburn, and Lester Bowie, leaving an indelible mark on the jazz landscape before his passing in 2016.
