Jacob of Chinon

Jacob of Chinon, also referred to as Rav Tam of Chinon, was a prominent 13th-century French Tosafist. Originating from Chinon, he was a student of the esteemed Isaac ben Abraham of Dampierre, indicating his involvement in a significant scholarly lineage. His own teaching career was marked by notable pupils, including Perez of Corbeil, highlighting his role as an educator in the Jewish community.

As a contributor to Jewish scholarship, Jacob of Chinon is recognized for his written works, particularly his commentary known as "Shitṭah" on the Talmudic tractate Sanhedrin, as noted by Mordechai ben Hillel. Additionally, he authored several tosafot, which are commentaries on the Talmud that provide deeper insights and analyses. These writings underscore his expertise and dedication to the field of Judaism, specifically within the realm of Talmudic studies and the Tosafist tradition.
