Gerson D. Cohen

Gerson D. Cohen was a prominent American rabbi and academic specializing in Judaism. Born in New York in 1924, he pursued his higher education at City College of New York, graduating in 1944. Cohen furthered his studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where he earned his bachelor's degree, master's degree, and received rabbinic ordination in 1948.
Cohen's academic career advanced with his appointment as Chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, a position he held from 1972 to 1986. Prior to this, he had expanded his knowledge in Semitic Languages, earning his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1958. As a Jewish historian and Conservative rabbi, Cohen made significant contributions to the field of Judaism, leaving a lasting impact through his work and leadership at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America until his passing in 1991.
