Elmer Berger (rabbi)
حاخام أمريكي
Elmer Berger was a prominent American Reform rabbi, born in 1908, who gained recognition for his outspoken views against Zionism. His career was marked by significant involvement with the American Council for Judaism, an organization he helped establish in 1942. Berger served as the executive director of the council for over a decade, until 1955, playing a key role in shaping its mission and objectives.
Following his tenure as executive director, Berger continued to contribute to the American Council for Judaism as a consultant until 1968. His association with the organization came to an end that year, when he was compelled to resign. Undeterred, Berger went on to found American Jewish Alternatives to Zionism, further solidifying his commitment to promoting alternative perspectives within the Jewish community. He passed away in 1996, leaving behind a legacy as a vocal advocate for his beliefs within the realm of Judaism.
