Egon Orowan was a Hungarian-British physicist and metallurgist who made significant contributions to his field. Born in 1902, Orowan's work focused on the understanding of material properties, particularly in relation to stress and deformation. His research played a crucial role in introducing the concept of crystal dislocation into physics, shedding light on the mechanisms of plastic deformation in materials.

As a prominent figure in his field, Orowan was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, recognizing his outstanding achievements. He is also notable for being part of a group of highly influential individuals known as "The Martians", a collection of Jewish individuals born in Pest between 1890 and 1910 who went on to shape the technological landscape of the 20th century after immigrating to the West. Orowan passed away in 1989, leaving behind a legacy of important scientific contributions.
