David ben Boaz

David ben Boaz was a prominent Karaite Jewish scholar who lived during the tenth century CE. As a member of the Karaite community, he played a significant role in the development of Karaite thought and tradition. His lineage was notable, as he was a direct descendant of Anan ben David, the founder of the Karaite movement. This heritage positioned him as a key figure within the community.

As the fifth in line of descent from Anan ben David, David ben Boaz held the title of resh galuta, or exilarch, of the Karaite community within the Abbasid Caliphate. This title signified his leadership and authority within the community, and he was recognized as a prominent voice in opposition to the rabbinical claimant to the exilarchate. Through his scholarship and leadership, David ben Boaz contributed to the growth and development of Karaite Judaism, leaving a lasting impact on the community and its traditions.
