Carlo Suarès

French writer and painter

Carlo Suarès was a French writer and painter of Sephardi Jewish descent, born on May 12, 1892, in Alexandria, Egypt. His family's history was marked by displacement, having originated in Spain and been expelled in 1492 during the Inquisition. They subsequently found refuge in Tuscany, Italy, before settling in Egypt in the 18th century. Suarès' own life was also affected by expulsion, leading him to relocate to Paris, where he became a French citizen.

In Paris, Suarès pursued his passions for art and spirituality, earning a diploma in architecture from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. As a painter, he sought to capture the essence of light, reflecting his deep interest in Kabbalah. Through his work, Suarès aimed to discover a synthesis of light, embodying the principles of this mystical tradition. He passed away on July 16, 1976, in Paris, leaving behind a legacy as a writer, painter, and Kabbalah author.
